Maria Bethania is an audiovisual anthropologist, filmmaker and photographer, born in 1982, in Ciudad Bolivar, at the southwest of Venezuela. She holds a Social Communication (Media) degree from the Universidad Católica Andres Bello (1994-2004, Caracas).


Between 2003 and 2007 she worked as an Audiovisual Producer for TV Networks such as HBO Latin America and AXN.  The first displays of her photo work happened around these years in places such as the Daniela Chappard Fund Art Gallery.

She moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2007 where she furthered her qualifications in photography and filmmaking. In 2009, her project “Hoteles Familiares” was published in the book “La cámara en la cartera” alongside other women photographers, this work would be featured in a few exhibitions around Argentina in the following years. During this time she also worked as a producer (music videos, films) and copywriter for independent production companies as well as international TV Networks, like Nickelodeon and Fox Latin American Channels, among others.

Since 2017 is based in Berlin, where besides her photography projects, is working on a few documentary/experimental films, which the main focus relies on migration, identity and family.
